our roots

Lisa Larian, designer of Bujii, began her journey as a teen when she discovered that fabrics instill an emotion, a feeling in her that awakens all five senses, with touch leading the rest. The way a fabric feels, smells, shapes our bodies, all impact the extent to which we can express ourselves. Lisa was quick to understand that her self expression was constantly shifting, and the industry could not keep up.

Once children came in the mix, she had to put her pursuit of designing clothes for the world on pause, and downscale to designing for her children. All four of her daughters had closets filled with their mom’s craft – lucky them. The children would be seen wearing her designs in public, with constant curiosity towards who made and styled their fits. “Where can we get this?!” was a question that became more common throughout the years. With her last child entering high school, she finally has the time to commit to her second purpose, fashion.

For the last seven years, Lisa has been fully committed to fine-tuning her look. Her creative muscles strengthened and her styles were quickly forming into statement pieces. She felt this shift in creativity, four years ago, as she gave birth to the look that we now call Bujii.

Aside from the unconventional use of fabrics, LA based Bujii, differentiates itself through the innovative design of adjustable suspender clips on all the tops. We incorporate the “bujii” embroidered suspender clips on our dresses as well.
